Hold Everything Loosely: August 2026 Astrology, Eclipses, and Tarot
August 2026: Hold Everything Loosely
August is the last big shakeup month of 2026. Not the last chance for drama, but this is the last one where the ground is genuinely moving under our feet. And at the center of it all are two eclipses.
I have deep dives below but here is the one thing I want you to carry with you all month: hold everything loosely. Your ideas about who you are, what your future looks like, who will be with you in it. Eclipses are the great disruptors. They illuminate, reveal, and shake loose what was never meant to stay. And when we grip too tightly, we make the shaking harder on ourselves.
The other thing worth knowing up front is this: the collective tarot pull for August is genuinely exciting. The Empress, the Seven of Swords, Justice, the Two of Cups, and the Wheel of Fortune. These cards are asking us to stop playing small, to stop believing the lie that we do not deserve good things, and to lean in close to the people who actually show up for us. More on all of that below.
Here are the four themes to hold for August.
Stop playing small and be seen for who you are. Not from a place of ego, but from a place of genuine confidence in what you bring. The solar eclipse in Leo is shaking up where your authority lives. Is it in other people's approval, or is it in yourself?
You deserve good things. If you feel guilty when good things happen, if you are always justifying your right to rest, if some part of you believes your life has to be hard for anything worthwhile to come. This month is asking you to look at that story and start rewriting it.
Wounds are surfacing. Chiron goes retrograde in Taurus in August and Justice shows up as the wound card in our collective reading. The wound being named this month is the one we gave ourselves by refusing to tell the truth--to ourselves, about ourselves. This is deep work, but it is good work.
Practice your relationship with change. The Wheel of Fortune closes out the tarot reading and it is asking us to stay open. Can you hold your plan for the day loosely enough that when something unexpected interrupts it, you can find the gift in it? That practice will carry you through eclipse season.
Where we are starting the month
Before we dive into what is coming, let's get grounded in what is already here.
The sun is in Leo, its home sign. Bold, expressive, creative Leo is where the sun loves to shine and it is inviting all of us, Leo or not, to find where we can be more bold and more ourselves this month.
Mercury is finally out of retrograde, though the first few days of August may still feel a little foggy. It starts the month in Cancer, where communication can feel watery and unclear, before moving into Leo on August 9.
Mars is in Gemini as we begin, which can have us feeling pulled in multiple directions — wanting to move but unsure which way. It shifts into Cancer on August 11 where it is in fall, meaning it does not do well. Expect your motivation and vitality to feel a little underwater for a stretch. In the heat of summer, that might actually be okay.
Venus starts the month in Virgo, which can bring perfectionism and a harder edge to how we relate to what we love and value. She moves into Libra on August 6, her home sign, which is a welcome shift.
Jupiter is in Leo, expanding wherever Leo falls in your chart, with the sun amplifying its work. If you want to know where Jupiter is working for you, drop your rising sign in the comments.
Saturn is retrograde in Aries, revisiting whatever we started building around February. Neptune is also in Aries, dissolving old identities and making it harder to see clearly. Together these two ask us to dream boldly while also being honest about what is not built on solid ground.
Uranus is in Gemini, continuing its work of disruption and innovation. Pluto is in Aquarius alongside the north node, bringing secrets to light at the level of the collective. And Chiron is in Taurus, pointing to wounds around resources, embodiment, and worth.
The astrology of August, date by date
August 3: Chiron goes retrograde in Taurus. Chiron is in retrograde for a large part of each year, so this is not an alarm, but it is an invitation to reflect on which wounds you are still carrying and which ones you are ready to release. Since Chiron is in Taurus, I cannot recommend somatic practices enough right now. Get into your body. Your body will not lie to you.
August 6: Venus enters Libra. Venus is so happy to be home. This is a beautiful time to look at your partnerships and ask: are they fair and equitable? Are your spaces, physical and emotional, actually supporting you? Pay close attention to what comes up here because Venus will be retrograding back into Libra later in the year, so anything that surfaces now will get a second look.
August 8: The Lion's Gate Portal (8/8). I think there is power in what we collectively agree to believe in. If you want to set an intention once this month, this is a good window before the eclipse energy builds.
August 9: Mercury enters Leo. Bold, clear communication. If you have been wanting to say something, shout something, or spread the word about a project, Mercury in Leo can support that. As always, I would come from a grounded place first.
August 11: Mars enters Cancer. Mars in fall. Motivation and drive may feel like they are moving through deep water. Couple that with the heat of summer and it is okay to move slowly. This is a good stretch for internal work rather than external announcements.
August 12: Solar eclipse in Leo. This is the big one for the first half of the month. Solar eclipses are about leaders--and Leo is the sign of leadership--so we can expect shakeups in the world of public figures and those in power. Remember that the sun is being blotted out during a solar eclipse, meaning we may not see exactly what is happening in real time.
For you personally, this is an opportunity to shake up the stories you tell yourself about your identity, your creativity, and your authority. Since it is an eclipse, we do not set intentions. We wait and watch. Do not make major decisions during this window. Breathe, feel, and let things reveal themselves before you respond.
August 15: Mercury conjunct Jupiter. Whatever Jupiter wants to amplify in Leo gets a microphone today. This is a day for big, clear, expansive communication.
August 17: Venus sextile Jupiter. A genuine expansion of self-worth and pleasure. Plan something enjoyable for yourself, even in the middle of eclipse season.
August 23: Sun enters Virgo. Welcome to Virgo season. We start to organize, prepare, and clean up... though we are not going too hard just yet because the lunar eclipse is still coming. Think of this as the beginning of getting your house in order.
August 25: Mercury enters Virgo. Organized, precise, prepared thinking. Good energy for planning and communicating clearly.
August 28: Lunar eclipse in Pisces. We are finishing a story on the Pisces-Virgo axis. This story started in September 2024, visited again in September 2025, and will not return for about 18 years. Where is Pisces in your chart and what have you been learning there since 2024? This is the closing chapter. Look back at your journals and photos from that time and the thread will become visible.
Lunar eclipses are about the collective and the people. Expect revelations and completions that touch all of us.
August 31: Jupiter trine Saturn. A warm, encouraging close to the month. Saturn is still retrograde and still asking us to look at our foundations, but Jupiter steps in with a boost of luck and confidence. We are not done building, but we can feel supported in doing it right.
The August tarot spread
I pulled five cards for the collective. You can use this same spread for yourself--and if you pull your own cards and want help with the interpretation, drop them in the comments.
The five positions are: what eclipse season is shaking up, the story that is shifting, the wound ready to be seen, what is working, and what needs tending during the shakeup.
Card 1--What eclipse season is shaking up: The Empress.
The Empress is the divine creative, the one who sits in her authority without apology. In this position, she is asking us to look at where our authority actually lives. Are you creating, shining, and building from your own inner knowing--or are you waiting for someone else's permission? The eclipse is shaking up that dynamic. Make sure the call is coming from inside the house.
Card 2--The story that is shifting: Seven of Swords.
The story we are rewriting this month is that we deserve good things. That we deserve to get away with it. That we are allowed to have more than we can hold and for it not to be hard. If you find yourself feeling guilty when life goes well, if you are constantly justifying your right to rest or to receive, this card is speaking directly to you. The Seven of Swords here is asking us to stop sneaking around our own abundance like we are not supposed to have it.
Card 3--The wound ready to be seen: Justice.
This one gave me chills. The wound that Chiron and the eclipses are surfacing together is the wound of self-deception, the places where we hurt ourselves because we were not willing to tell ourselves the truth. Where we repeated a lie about who we are or what we deserve until it became the operating system. Justice does not punish. She illuminates. And what she is illuminating this month is the gap between what we know and what we have been willing to admit.
Card 4--What is working: Two of Cups.
Even in the chaos, this is working: the people who are on the same page as you. The ones who show up, who love you, who can hold space for you while you are processing without needing you to have it figured out. Lean in close to them this month. Connection is the medicine.
Card 5--What needs tending during the shakeup: Wheel of Fortune.
The Wheel of Fortune is asking us to practice our relationship with change. Not just to tolerate it, but to genuinely work on seeing each unexpected turn as something that was meant for you. Can you visualize your day, hold it loosely, and when it goes sideways--find the gift in the detour? That retraining is the work of August. And the more you practice it now, the better equipped you will be for what eclipse season reveals.
A note on self-care
Eclipse season asks a lot of us. Please drink your water, get enough sleep, move your body, and hug the people you love. Get somatic. Dance, walk, breathe, whatever brings you back into your physical self. Your body will tell you the truth when your mind is spinning stories.
If you want to know how this eclipse season lands specifically in your chart, drop your big three in the comments and I will tell you. I am also giving away a free three-month reading to one commenter this month.
I love you and I will see you for the eclipse.
